1) Look straight down at the spool cap.

2) You should see a couple of arrows on opposite sides of thecap.

3) Push in the spool and twist until the one of the arrows linesup with the string dispensing hole; you may have to push and twistan inch or two, release, and repeat a few times until it is alllined up.

4) Pull straight up and it should pull straight out with alittle effort.

There are bunches of different models, but that is how I FINALLYgot mine off.
